Laura Q. Pelosi, Partner
LAURA Q. PELOSI concentrates her practice on health care and education issues. She represents her clients before the legislature and state agencies. Laura is a natural leader and is known for her ability to successfully manage controversial issues with sound strategy and thoughtful execution. Laura is an experienced public servant with a record of leading clients through the regulatory and legislative process. Her experience working within federal and state government, and with regulated entities in the private sector has proved very valuable as she works with clients to establish and maintain positive, productive relationships with regulators, administration officials and legislators.
Laura began her career as an environmental attorney with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in Atlanta, Georgia. Upon returning to Vermont, she joined an insurance firm, Theriault & Joslin, P.C., followed by several years as an enforcement attorney with the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources. Laura briefly served as the Agency’s Policy Director before being appointed Commissioner of the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation by Governor Douglas. Following her public service, Laura turned her attention to new endeavors as Executive Director of the Vermont Health Care Association (VHCA), a nonprofit trade organization for post-acute and long-term care facilities. During her time at VHCA, she began building her knowledge and experience in health care policy and advocacy. Since joining MMR in 2012, Laura has expanded her knowledge and representation in the health care and education policy spaces.
She has served on many workgroups and task forces over the years, including the Blue Ribbon Commission on the Future of Nursing (2011-2012), as Co-Chair of the State Innovation Model Quality and Performance Measures Workgroup (2013-2014), and the Rural Health Services Task Force (2019-2020).
Laura is a graduate of Vermont Law School, where she received both a Juris Doctor and Master of Studies in Environmental Law. She received a B.A. in Political Science cum laude from Alfred University.
Laura lives with her husband and highly energetic dogs. She is an avid cook, loves long walks, travel, dog training and trialing. She is also engaged in formal wine studies, and serves as the emcee for the annual Stowe Art, Wine and Food Fundraiser to benefit Copley Hospital. She is a member of the Confrerie des Chevaliers du Tastevin, an organization dedicated to the wines of Burgundy, France.
